GSC Game World has announced Update 2.0 for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, due on August 20, 2026 alongside the first major story expansion, Cost of Hope. The free update includes an updated engine version, a graphics overhaul, changes to lighting, shadows and reflections, and adjustments to the A-Life simulation.
Update 2.0 brings engine, graphics and A-Life changes
The update moves the game to an updated version of its engine and includes a comprehensive graphics overhaul. GSC Game World is also improving the lighting system with realistic shadows and reflections, while landscapes and vegetation have been optimized.

A-Life changes address issues involving shooting through walls and overcrowding in locations. The update also adds more encounter points for stalkers and mutants at campfires and bus stops.

Cost of Hope arrives with the free update
Cost of Hope will be released on August 20 alongside Update 2.0. The story expansion focuses on the long-running conflict between the Duty and Freedom factions.
The expansion will add access to new major locations, including the Iron Forest, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the Dimensional Bubble. It will be included with the Ultimate Edition and sold separately to standard-edition owners for $29.99 or €29.99, depending on regional pricing.
