Roboto Games will open free public access to Stormforge on Steam starting August 18 at 11 AM PT (2 PM ET), giving players up to eight hours of co-op time before the full survival-RPG’s Early Access launch later this year. The demo covers four-plus hours of content across 24 square kilometers of procedurally generated world. Here’s exactly what’s in the build, what changed since the July playtest, and what to expect once Early Access arrives.
Stormforge Demo: Roboto Games Confirms August 18 Public Access on Steam
What the Demo Actually Contains
According to the official demo announcement, the build is not a stripped-down slice. It ships with the full eight-player multiplayer suite, both starting classes with their skill trees, and one boss fight.
- First two biomes: Meadow and Forest, each with distinct ecology and enemies
- Two building material tiers: Wood and Stone, with crafting and base-building fully functional
- Both storm types: tornado physics events and dust storm visibility/damage mechanics
- Multiplayer loot scaling retuned based on feedback from the earlier public playtest
Players who joined the July 27–August 3 playtest will notice several changes: new combat music, improved hitboxes and enemy targeting, an FOV slider, added air vents for traversal, and world map autosaves. The demo is completely free, requires no purchase, and runs through the Steam client on Windows.
Why the Storm System Matters
Stormforge inverts the genre’s usual hazard logic. Where other survival-RPGs treat environmental threats as something to wall off, Stormforge’s magical storms hold resources found nowhere else — meaning players who avoid them stay undergeared. That risk-reward split also shapes the five-class system (Warrior, Ranger, Mage, Forager, Villager), where skills mix freely across classes once unlocked through biome bosses.

What We Know So Far About Early Access
- Early Access is planned for later in 2026, with no exact date confirmed
- Three major biomes with unique bosses at launch, one beyond the demo’s Meadow and Forest
- Dedicated server support confirmed for Early Access launch
- A modest price increase is planned at version 1.0, reflecting content added during roughly a year of Early Access
Roboto Games has developed Stormforge since 2013 and has raised $19.43 million in funding to date.
Should You Download the Demo?
If storm-diving loot loops or class-blending sound appealing, the demo is a low-risk way to test the base-building and co-op flow before committing to Early Access pricing. Minimum specs are modest — a GTX 1060 or RX 580 with 16 GB RAM handles it — so most players who’ve run other multiplayer survival titles should be fine.
