Developer Funcom has confirmed that Dune: Awakening will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22, 2026. The release will bring a single-player mode to every platform, along with the final act of Book One and console-specific interface, control, and graphics options.
Dune: Awakening Launches on Consoles September 22
The console editions will include the content and improvements released for the PC version since its launch. Players on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will be able to choose between a default Performance mode targeting 60 frames per second and a Quality mode, with a redesigned interface and controls for consoles.
The game will also be available through Xbox Game Pass. Xbox Play Anywhere will support shared progression and cross-platform play between Xbox and the Microsoft Store version on Windows PC. Cross-platform play is not available between different console platforms or between consoles and PC, except for Xbox and the Windows PC Store.
Single-Player Mode and the End of Book One
The September update introduces single-player play on all platforms. At the start of a session, players can choose between single-player and multiplayer. Solo play includes three preset difficulty levels as well as manual settings for individual options, including experience gains, resource gathering, and storm settings.
Single-player mode includes non-player characters but no other players. Deep Desert content and challenges will be available, while the map will not reset and player structures will not be destroyed. Coriolis storms will remain a weather event but will deal less damage.
The update will also add the concluding act of Book One, allowing players on PC and consoles to complete the story from beginning to end in solo or multiplayer modes.
PvE Options and Endgame Changes
Funcom has reworked the game so that PvP is no longer required to complete any part of Dune: Awakening. The Deep Desert is available as either a PvE or PvP instance, with the PvP instance offering 2.5 times as many resources in exchange for the additional risk.
The Landsraad has been revised around a task system covering combat, crafting, gathering, exploration, and sabotage. The endgame content can be completed in PvE without taking part in PvP battles. Crash sites in the Hagga Basin have also become PvE-only, and key crafting resources are no longer tied to PvP combat.
Base and Vehicle Protection
Several systems are intended to reduce the consequences of losing vehicles and bases in multiplayer:
- Vehicle recovery: Destroyed vehicles can be restored within 72 hours using the Vehicle Backup Tool for a Solari fee, with some durability lost.
- Base recovery: Players can store up to three backup copies of a base and restore them using the Base Recovery Tool.
- Tax removal: Base maintenance taxes have been removed, although bases still need power to protect them from weather conditions.
Character Transfers and Platform Limitations
Character transfers are structured around the type of world in which a character was created:
- Characters created for single-player are limited to that mode.
- Characters from private and dedicated servers can be used across those server types.
- Characters from official servers can move to another official server or to a private or dedicated server, but cannot return to official servers after moving elsewhere.
- Saved bases and vehicles move with a character.
Dune: Awakening arrives on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22 with console performance options, Xbox Game Pass availability, a single-player mode, and the conclusion of Book One.
